368 individuals on this planet
have fortunes
that equals the value of the salery of half
the worlds population in one year.
The 3rd world countries owe the West $2,000
billion (like a gazillion doleros).
One fifth or $400 billion we're made as loans to dictators.
These dictators enriched themselves instead of
feeding the people. They had
grilled lobster with '61 Chablis while the people died from
hunger in
the streets.
Shame on them.
The following are but a few...
Zaire: Mobutu Sese Seko (dead 1997 of
cancer). Fortune: $10-12 billion.
Ruler of Zaire ( now the
"Democratic" Republic of Congo) from 1965 when CIA
helped him take power.
Dethroned in 1997 after a peoples rebellion and died in exile
same year.
Used his fortune on estates in France, an extended landing field
for his jungle palads and sunday outings
with the family in Concorde airplanes.
He once told a group of disbelieving journalists on a visit to
Washington:
"I could easily imagin spending part of my fortune on my
people. But they would never be able to pay me
back."
The tyrant - who always wore 4 golden bulletproof vests and a
leopardskin hat - left his country with a debt
of $15 billion.
CAR: Jean Bedel Bokassa
Took power in the Central African
Republic in 1966 and made himself 'emporor' the napoleonistic way
in
1977.
His crowning alone costed as much as a quarter of the total
yearly GNP of the country. The crown itself was
5 million dollars.
He was dethroned in a coup two years after but returned in 1986,
where he was arrested and convicted on
charges of cannibalism and massmurder. He was also charged with
childmurder and 'the african desease'
corruption. He was sentenced to death but got away with 7 years.
Indonesia: the Suharto family. Fortune $40
billion.
Took power in Indonesia in 1965 in
a coup. A peoples rebellion forced him to resign in 1998, after
him and his
family had enriched them selves with the money of the indonesian
people.
The daughter Tutut controls 55 compagnies. The sons Tommy and
Bambang controls the car-industry and are
associated with or controls the TV-industry, the
building-industry and hotels.
The family has used a monopoly system to build up an over $40
billion fortune.
Haiti: Jean-Claude 'Baby
Doc' Duvalier.
Ruled Haiti in a brutal
dictatorship until he had to flee the country in the mid-80s.
Lives underground because
Haiti wants him back and charged with crimes against humanity and
ploundering of the state. Last seen in
France in 1995, where he left a hotel bill of $20,000.
...the rest will have
their sorry story told later, but they too have enriched
themselves in very unfair
ways indeed!
Romania: Nicolai Ceausescu and his wife
Pakistan: Benazir Bhutto
Cuba: Fidel Castro
Phillipines: Fernando and Imelda Marcos.
Russia: Boris 'mr. Vodka' Jeltsin.
